Ghost Wind

Some may call it folk. Some may call it Americana. Some may call it country. Ghost Wind’s music encompasses all of that and more. Larry and Peggy Haney have been playing music together for quite some time. Larry’s guitar and Peggy’s piano accompany the duo’s harmonies so that each song they play, whether a cover or an original, is a unique experience for the audience.

In their 24th year of operation, Inland Northwest Musicians ensembles have performed more than 500 concerts in 50 different communities in Northeast Oregon and Southeast Washington. They are the only regional classical music organization in the Pacific Northwest. Inland Northwest Musicians operates different performing ensembles: Inland Northwest Orchestra – a full symphony orchestra of approximately 50 members. Inland Northwest Chorale – a symphonic chorale group comprised of approximately 40 singers.

For more than 10 years now Brady has been busy touring and propelling audiences to their feet with his dynamic and sizzling command of the ivories paired with his warm, soulful vocals at venues up and down the west coast and occasionally across the country. Wherever you find Brady you are sure to hear a remarkable catalog of covers and originals from rock n’ roll to country to jazz. Diversity and creativity abound as Brady gives it everything and leaves it all on the stage creating an exciting show every time! If he feels it, he’ll play it!

One of Baker City's favorite singer-troubadours who has played music
for decades, John Woodward’s polished guitar work and soft vocals create a soothing experience for audience members. Often several guitars are used throughout the performance to provide varied accompaniments for his vocals. John Prine and Bob Dylan are among the songwriters John draws from. D’Club L’eveque offers a softer approach to folk music.

Lonnie Shurtleff and Marilyn (Haynes) Shollenberger joined forces some time ago to bring their “Eclectic Americana” to music fans in Baker County and surrounding areas. Between Lonnie’s cowboy poetry and guitar playing, and Marilyn’s country-swing piano and harmonies, they bring an enjoyable range of music to their audience.

Frontmen Donny Counts and Patrick McWeeney bring solid musicianship and a great love of music to their performances. This Baker City band may have different members at different times, but they can deliver a wide range of musical styles including classic and modern county, classic rock, folk, and blues. There probably isn’t a style of music they can’t play.

Based in Union, OR, the Blue Mountain Old Time Fiddlers provide a glimpse into the past with their acoustic renditions of traditional folk and country music. The group varies their performances by bringing many different musicians to the stage.

Rushfire, consisting of Baker City musicians Johnny Star and Nancy Ames, were some of the first musicians to volunteer to play to help raise money for the Powder River Pavilion. Their music ranges from folk to classic rock/country.

This 9-piece ensemble of musicians features pop and jazz music from the 1950’s, ‘60’s, 70’s, ‘80’s, and ‘90’s. With a focus on brass section accompaniments (hence the name), the band offers a wide range of musical styles and features several different vocalists throughout their performances. Fans of the band Chicago take note: Brass Fire is well-versed in some of Chicago’s greatest hits, and a few that are not so well known.

Travel to Africa via the music of this 11-piece band from La Grande. Their music is based on traditional Zimbabwean music, using marimba and other percussion-based instruments to create a musical sound unlike any other experienced in Eastern Oregon.

Slapjack Casualty’s music is “Mountain music permeating from the ancient basalt flood planes of the Columbia River Plateau.” In simpler terms, the music from these La Grande musicians is based in traditional folk and bluegrass, featuring solid musicianship and exceptional harmonies.

One of the most popular and well-known bands from Eastern Oregon, “The Kings,” as many locals call them, have been sharing their talents with audiences for 15 years. They are a regular at the Walla Walla Guitar Festival, play dozens of gigs in and around their home town of La Grande, and visit Baker City several times a year as well. Their mix of traditional country and Americana music is enjoyed by many as they mix both originals and well-known cover songs into each performance.

Baker City’s own Frank Carlson has been entertaining audiences for many years. He is one of the early volunteers who helped to raise money for the Powder River Pavilion by donating his performance time. His music ranges from the oldies of the ‘50’s and ‘60’s to hits of the ‘70’s and ‘80s to traditional and modern country. A fan-favorite of Baker City residents, Frank plays often around town for various organizations. He has performed for Powder River Music Revue regularly since around 2011 and is the feature performer for the Saturday Night Street Dance during Miners’ Jubilee.
